SUMMER SENTINEL
| The Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is located at
the tip of the Pemaquid Peninsula in the scenic Damariscotta Region of
mid-coast Maine. To protect ships, Congress approved the building of the
lighthouse in 1826 to mark the entrance to Muscongus Bay and St. Johns
Bay.
In 1856 a fourth order Fresnel lens replaced the original 10 lamps and reflectors. The following year the original stone keeper's house was replaced with the present frame house, which now is home to a fishermen's museum. |
